MAPLE TREES and DNA
My neighbor has a beautiful 30-year-old maple tree in his front yard which gets plenty of sun.
As you can see in this photo, it is more than twice as tall as his 2 story house and about twice as wide.
I did an estimate of how many leaves this large tree might have. I am guessing about one million.
According to NIH studies, human DNA, in each cell of our body, has an estimated 20,000 to 25,000 genes carrying about 3 billion bits
of information. (Washington Post PARADE August 30, 2009 page 5) Since the human genome is diploid, however,
having two strands, one on top of the other, one from your mother and one from your father,
the actual number of information bits (Base Pairs) is over 6 billion.
To get some concept of 6 billion, let us compare it to the same maple tree. 6 billion divided by one million
shows us that if each and every information point on one human DNA corresponded to one leaf on a large maple tree, we would need
6,000 trees to cover all the information points.
DNA is not seemingly random like tree leaves either. Each DNA information point is in its own precise location, and is part of an enormous and
extremely complex program containing code that directs human life. The human body changes every minute, from conception until natural death.
If all the pieces of one cell's DNA were lined up, it would be 6 feet long, all in perfect programed order, fully ready to work for human life.
How could something so complex happen by chance?
I do not believe it is possible that creation happened by chance. I believe God is our Creator. Just as a master
carpenter makes his own tools, this same God created DNA and it is His tool for the creation of all life.
I believe He also creates an eternal human soul for each conceived human being. That soul is very precious to Him.
God made it all and He deserves the glory. This is my email if you want to contact me:
